USA Today reports that taking mass transit paves the way to a healthier lifestyle. Included in the article is Arlington’s own “car-free diet” which “urges residents to live “car-free” or “car-lite” – giving up their vehicles to ride Arlington Transit or the Washington, D.C., bus and subway system, bike or walk. Residents can use an online calculator to determine how many calories they’ll burn and how much money they’ll save by not having to gas up the car.”

Area density and commute time is considered by Ryan Avent at The Bellows.

WTOP shares speculation that politics played a role in the downfall of the Dulles Rail. Could the Bush Administration’s bias against public transportation be a factor in the bottleneck to federal funding?

Road Problems and Solutions

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

An article in the Loudoun Extra last week proved that persistence pays off when searching for a solution to traffic problems. A “zig-zag” intersection and questionable stop sign at Waxpool Road in Ashburn gave many commuters problems at Farmwell Hunt’s Faulkner Parkway. The problem was between some barriers and a stop sign that was not clearly visible.

After VDOT officials came out and inspected the intersection, changes were underway to increase safety measures at the intersection. It’s great to know that VDOT is willing to work with community members to correct problems that affect major roadways.
