Fashion lovers unite! Fashion Week in New York City starts again on September 8, 2016 promising to be another fun-filled and exciting event in The Big Apple. NYC Fashion Week is the ultimate experience for those who love to shop and wear the latest trends in designer clothing, shoes and bags. The trip gives you an opportunity to visit the most famous fashion industry neighborhoods of New York with fashion industry insiders and experienced tour guides. You will have an opportunity to visit the famous Garment District, shop the trendiest NYC boutiques in Soho, or simply go window shopping on 5th Avenue.
It’s not always easy to get access to the official Fashion Show events that are packed with professional fashion designers, models and buyers, but there some free events that you can attend with a bit of advance planning. We created the following tour experience for you that will give you some ideas of things you can do during New York’s Fashion Week.
Stop 1 – Drop off at Time’s Square and Lunch
Drop off time will be around 12:00 pm, just in time for lunch at Schnippers Quality Kitchen at 8th Avenue and 41st St. Check out their menu of great old fashioned American food of classic hamburgers, salads and shakes. Their own special Schnipper Sauce is poured on hamburgers and makes a good dipping sauce for fries. Some other items on the menu are mac and cheese, thick-cut onion rings, and sloppy joes. Veggie burgers and gluten-free chicken fingers are also available. If you are in the mood for a drink, they also serve wine and beers. There are plenty of places to eat at Time’s Square and you easily find another restaurant by just walking around the city. If you decide to plan ahead, click on the link for some more options of best lunch places in Time’s Square.
Stop 2 – Seek Fashion Week Walking Tour
Time’s Square is just a few blocks from the historic Garment District of New York in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The Garment District consists of a 20- block area located between 34th – 42nd Streets and Fifth – Ninth Avenues. This one-square mile neighborhood is world-renowned for its concentration of fashion designers, fashion houses and showrooms.
Now it’s time to meet your tour guide from Seek Fashion Week Tours. This popular tour fills up quickly, so make sure you register and plan your tour in advance. A professional fashion designer will take you on a guided tour of the Garment District and explain all the fashion landmarks, popular TV locations and history of the garment and retail industries. You will see Project Runway locations, visit fabric stores and even meet a well-known retailer who will explain the process of how fashions go from the runway to retail stores. Fashion Week tours are available from September 9-15, 2016. If you miss those dates, you can still join a Seek Garment District tour throughout the year. Fashion Week tours last from 3-3.5 hours and cost $55 per person. At the end of the tour, you will receive a complimentary Fashion Week gift!
Stop 3 – Shop Gotham Shopping Tour
Time to go boutique shopping in Soho! Shop Gotham’s awesome Soho & Nolita Shopping Tour will take you to all the chic boutiques in NYC neighborhoods of Soho (South of Houston St.) and Nolita (North of Little Italy). Your shopping guide will fill you in on all the latest fashion trends and show you some hidden gems of rarely found clothing and accessory boutiques. The walk covers about 6-10 city blocks. Public tours will fill up quicky during Fashion Week, so consider arranging a private tour that can be customized to meet your group’s size and schedule anytime. Ticket prices are $38 per person and groups of 6 or more automatically receive a 10% discount.
When Fashion Week is over, sample sales are held in all kinds of odd places around the city, like empty storefronts and hidden showrooms. To find out where your favorite fashion samples might be for sale, see the attached NYC Sample Sale list.
