When Corcoran Vineyards first opened to the public in Loudoun County back in 2004, it was the 11th winery in the region. Today there are more than 40 wineries and business is booming. To date, however, there is just one “Cidery†in the region. Corcoran is proud to fill that role!
Since the first vines were planted in Waterford, Virginia in 2001, Corcoran has been a small family run business. Over a decade later, they have kept that intimate and homey feel. Open only on weekend afternoons, the winery tends not to attract large crowds or host major events. Rather, the focus is on the quality of the product. Winemaker Lori is always on hand to answer questions and chat with visitors.
Today, Corcoran Vineyards produces, wine, beer, and cider, which makes them a triple threat! Business has grown significantly, so to meet demand, the team moved their brewery off the farm to a new location just 5 miles away. Winery visitors have the option of more than 12 wines and the tasty, gluten-free cider.
About the Winemaker
Lori Corcoran went to school Administration of Justice but opted to raise a family and get her hands dirty working on the farm instead of going into her field of study. Production at Corcoran Vineyards started at just 550 cases under Lori’s watchful eye, but today the team is proud to produce approximately 5000 cases of wine and now cider.
When owners Jim and Lori planted the first vines back in 2001, Lori decided it was time to return to school and learn the advanced practices behind making wine. She attended Virginia Tech where she studied the chemistry of winemaking. Her style as a winemaker is constantly evolving because every harvest is unique. Read more about Lori’s adventures in winemaking on her blog “Off the Vineâ€.
