About the Vineyard
Casanel was established in October of 2008 by Casey & Nelson DeSouza as a family-owned and -operated vineyard. Focusing on their passion of grape-growing and winemaking, they were able to emphasize the way their craft wines are produced. Located in the heart of Leesburg, Virginia, the unique terroir of the Middleburg AVA provides the perfect setting for their unique wine-making styles and flavors.
The mission statement of Casanel revolves around the exceptional taste of each of their wines: Passion, quality, and attention to detail make our wines a perfect pour, every time. This attention to detail helps the vineyard take pride in providing a truly unique experience in the tasting room. It is reflected in their quiet, adult ambiance and tranquil setting amidst the Catoctin ridge.
For all you pet lovers out there, pets are allowed outside at Casanel Vineyards but they must be on a leash at all times. There is also no outside food allowed in the tasting room buildings.
Many of the wines made here have won awards both regionally and internationally. One of the most recent awards was at the Virginia Governor’s Cup where their 2013 Estate Petit Verdot won Silver in 2016 and it also took a Gold in California at the 2015 Grand Harvest Awards. The DeSouza’s daughters, Anna & Katie, both help manage the tasting room, private events, and wine production for Casanel. Through their family approach and commitment to excellence, they are definitely a stop to try in the Harmony Cluster wine trail.
