About the Winery
Hillsborough Vineyards began the way many local wineries do; as a hobby that became so much more. Bora Baki was a successful entrepreneur who came to the US with his wife Zeynep in 1979. After two decades in the workforce, Bora left DC behind and successfully retired to the lovely Loudoun countryside. Retirement wasn’t for him. He was bored and decided to try his hand at winemaking. Within a few years, Hillsborough Vineyards was born.
Today, the vineyard sits on 36 acres and is split into 3 fields of vines. The varietals grown at Hillsborough are perfect for the NoVa climate and tend to yield exceptional wine. The family prides itself on meticulous cultivation of the vines and produce wine with utmost care.
Visitors are able to enjoy the property’s many secluded nooks and rolling hills. The Bakis encourage winetasters to sip wine on the spacious stone patio or relax in the sun-drenched Adirondack chairs. Hillsborough also offers snacks such as gourmet cheese, freshly baked bread, and cured meats, to compliment the award-winning wines.
Hillsborough wines are sold at retail shops and restaurants throughout the region. Check the company website for updates and learn where you can drink a Hillsborough vintage.
Bora Baki initially started his foray into winemaking as a hobby. He intended to pass the time and enjoy retirement growing grapes and producing wine for his family and close friends. As an industrious entrepreneur however, he couldn’t sit still and continually grew the business. Today, Hillsborough is part vineyard, part event space, and a serene getaway from the city.
