About the Brewery
What started out as a home brewery in Mike and Steve Katrivanos’ backyard, New District Brewing Company got its name to pay homage to Arlington’s history when it was part of the District of Columbia. As a family and friend owned business built in Northern Virginia, the logo depicts the Key Bridge over the Potomac River because the last brewery in Arlington was at the base of Key Bridge in Rosslyn. The two Katrivanos brothers were looking for a new challenge, so Mike decided to use his electrical engineering skills and build his very own brewing system.
With the help of brewmaster Dan Murray, Mike and Dan started brewing beer in the backyard every Saturday. After support by the Katrivanos’ dad, Harry, the family decided it was time to open a brewery of their own. By mid-2014, a site was secured with construction soon to follow. Today, it is the first distribution brewery in Arlington County since 1916.
Open Thursday through Sunday every week, New District Brewing Company is a short walk from the Village at Shirlington. While they do not sell food in the tasting room, there are food trucks available from time to time and guests can bring their own food into the tasting room. If you’d like, you can also order food to be delivered while you taste some of their unique and extensive list of beer.
