About the Winery
Founded in 2002 by Holli and John Todhunter, Three Fox Vineyards is Northern Virginia’s only Italian inspired vineyard and is Virginia’s original home of Sangiovese.
Unlike other vineyards in the Mosby Heritage area, the Todhunters have focused on Italian varietals with a touch of the French influence. From their travels through Italy and France they were inspired to bring the “dolce vita” home to Virginia. Since its inception, the vineyard has grown to over ten acres (with a plan to add two to three more) located on over 50 acres of beautiful Virginia countryside. They have a variety of award winning wines including Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Pinot Grigio and Viognier that can be enjoyed year round.
Visitors are invited to experience the beauty of the vineyard and taste the various wines on the heated patio, in the rolling meadow, or at the famous “table in the sky.”
Holli and John’s ultimate goal for the vineyard is to reach a production level of 5000 cases per year. Though they have set their sights high, the success of Three Fox Vineyards so far suggests they’ll accomplish everything they set their minds to.
Three Fox Vineyards also hosts a variety of special food, music and wine events throughout the year. Be sure to check the website for a calendar of these special events.
John and Hollie Todhunter harbored a desire to be vintners almost 30 years ago. John began his training as a biochemist studying yeasts, and while he was in graduate school in Santa Barbara he added winemaking to his studies. any years later he trained under two of Virginia’s biggest names in the wine industry, Jim Law and Tom Payette, to prepare himself for the opening of Three Fox Vineyards.
Today, John’s wines have won numerous medals and awards across the country. Most recently, the 2012 Alouette Cabernet Franc earned a silver medal at the 2014 San Francisco International Wine Competition.
