Here are some questions to help you get started planning your distillery/cidery tour:

Check out these local distilleries: In Northern Virginia, distilleries are spread out, with Catoctin Creek Distilling in Purcellville, Mt. Defiance Cidery and Distillery in Middleburg, KO Distilling in Manassas, Mularkey Distilled Spirits in Bristow, and Falls Church Distillers in Falls Church. If you’re looking for a tasting tour of distilleries in close proximity, Washington DC has four in Northeast: Republic Restoratives, New Columbia Distillers, One Eight Distilling and Cotton & Reed. Frederick is also a cluster that includes Dragon Distillery, McClintock Distilling Company, Puerto Rico Distillery, Springfield Manor, and Tenth Ward Distilling Company.

If you don’t mind a trip further south, we recommend a day trip to A. Smith Bowman Distillery, which originally opened in Reston in 1935 and moved to Fredericksburg in 1988.

See our custom map below of area distilleries and cideries:

How about the cideries? Northern Virginia offers several cidery stops, each about an hour’s drive east of DC:  Corcoran Vineyards & Cidery in Waterford, Mt. Defiance Cidery & Distillery has two locations in Middleburg, Notaviva Craft  Fermentations in Purcellville, Henway Hard Cider in Bluemont, and Wild Hare Cider pubs in Leesburg and Middleburg. In DC,  you have Capitol Cider House, Supreme Core Cider, and Basque-inspired cider bar ANXO offers two locations.

How many people are attending? This will determine the size of vehicle and contributes to the cost of the tour. To determine what type of vehicle you would need, view our fleet page. Keep in mind some of the wineries are limited in size and space. For corporate groups with large numbers of attendees, one option may be to travel in separate buses and to different wineries rather than going all at once to the same location.

How long do you want the tour to be? The number of hours also contributes to the cost – once you have determined which vehicle you would need, you can request a quote or book your reservation. The amount of time you have available also helps to determine how many cideries or breweries you are able to visit in that time period.
